Enlightened: Its important for a believer to have his/her eyes always open and alert. The importance of an enlightened eye is seen in Psalms 13. If our eyes aren’t open then death follows and its not a physical death that is envisaged here rather a spiritual death. The adversary tried to blind us from reality and we are fooled to believe in deception. Some times the deception of the evil one seems more real than the promise of a life with God and we are pulled into it, simply because we cant see clearly. In addition to this when our eyes are not enlightened we are blinded to the wonders of the heavenly realm.
The prayer of the Psalmist is simple – Lord don’t let me loose my spiritual perspective. Its very important to have a spiritual perspective without which the enemy will easily befall us and our spiritual life will be shaken.
I would like to remind the readers of the attendant of Elisha in 2 Kings 6th Chapter:8-17. When the Syrian army surrounded Elisha’s tent, the attendants heart was filled with dread on seeing the vast army but Elisha seemed composed. The reason was Elisha saw something more than his attendant. While the one WITHOUT SPIRITUAL VISION saw SYRIAN ARMY the one WITH SPIRITUAL VISION saw the BLAZING ARMY. Immediately Elisha prayed for his attendant so that his eyes might open to see great wonders which he could not see with his naked eye. Let us therefore pray life the Psalmist – Lord open my eyes so that I see your wonders and worship you in your glory – there are wonders beyond our comprehension but we cannot see it unless we are ENLIGHTENED!!!!!!
